+ What is the Alexander Technique?

Alexander Technique is a set of skills and insights that connect your mind and body. You can use it to find more energy, confidence, and precision in the way you move, breathe, and communicate throughout the day -- or in a specialised activity or artform.

The AT is based on the teachings of F. M. Alexander, who made important discoveries about how thoughts, beliefs and habits affect how we move, breathe, and live in relation to the physics of this planet. Alexander believed that there are important discoveries to be made about how we're designed to move that can be learned---and that learning these insights can help us shed unhelpful ways of moving in favor of new approaches that fit better with what we want.

Alexander's chief insight was that finding resiliency and precision in our actions does not depend on narrowing our focus or "getting it right". Rather, Alexander's process is about discovery and making choices, of allowing ourselves to invite our body's processes and potential while freeing ourselves from reactivity.

Human beings are not machines. We are living organisms and we're highly responsive both to the ever-changing outside world and to the ever-changing inner experience of living. The more we understand about how to collorborate with our unique design, the more steadiness we create and the more synchronized we feel with our ourselves and the present moment.

Alexander Technique will help you discover a more resilient, more precise way of moving and breathing throughout your day.

+ I WANT TO TAKE A CLASS BUT THE TIMES DON'T FIT IN MY SCHEDULE. DO YOU TEACH ANYWHERE ELSE?

Yes! Belinda teaches at The Barrow Group and Terry Knickerbocker Studio. Check out their websites for more information.

+ I'M NEW TO THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE, WHICH CLASS SHOULD I TAKE?

Wonderful! And Welcome! Throughout the year we will be offering AT Foundations classes that are appropriate for beginners or if you want a brush-up. Belinda frequently teaches introductory Alexander Technique for Actors classes at The Barrow Group.

If you're interested in focusing on your specific needs, or have a limited time frame, individual sessions would be appropriate.

+ WHAT IS YOUR CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY?

We understand! Last minute auditions come up and we want you to stay home if you're sick. Whenever possible we will help you to reschedule but we cannot offer make-up classes. For Group classes and individual lessons: We require 24 hours advance notice or you will be responsible for paying the class fee. In your confirmation email, there will be a link to reschedule or cancel. Follow the instructions there. If you have any problems, feel free to email: atmotionoffice@gmail.com

+ WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?

Wear clothes that you are comfortable moving in. Most students wear athleisure or athletic wear. Be prepared to work barefoot or in socks. You may bring studio/dance shoes as well. We ask that you remove your outdoor shoes at the door to help us keep the studio floors clean.
